    Can’t find the company?

If the company does not have an LEI, you can register a new one in just a few steps.

    What Is an LEI Search?

An LEI search is used to find the public Legal Entity Identifier record connected to a company, fund, bank or other legal entity.

Each record connects a unique 20-character LEI code to identifying information about the entity. This makes it possible to confirm that the LEI belongs to the organisation named in a transaction or financial document.

Search by LEI Code or Entity Name

Enter the complete LEI code when you already have it. This provides the most direct match.

If you do not know the code, search using the entity’s registered legal name. Avoid abbreviations or trading names where possible, as the LEI record normally uses the organisation’s official name.

    Filter Results by Country

Select India to narrow the results to entities registered in India. This can help distinguish between organisations with similar names or related entities operating in different countries.

You can also search without the country filter when looking for an overseas parent company, subsidiary or counterparty.

How to Search an LEI Number

Whether you’re looking for a global company’s code or an Indian LEI, getting accurate information is made straightforward with our tool. Follow these steps:

    1

Enter the Name or LEI Code

Enter the entity’s registered legal name or its complete 20-character LEI code into the search field.

    2

    Find the Correct Entity

Compare the legal name, registered address and country shown in the results. These details help identify the correct entity when several records have similar names.

    3

    Open the LEI Record

Select the matching result to view the entity’s full public LEI record.

    4

    Check the LEI Status

Review the registration status and next renewal date. An LEI that appears in the database is not necessarily current, so the status must be checked separately.

    What an LEI Search Shows

    Legal Name and Registration Details

The record shows the entity’s registered legal name, legal jurisdiction, registered address and available registration identifiers.

These details should correspond with the entity’s official records. A previous legal name or address may also appear when the LEI data has been updated.

    LEI Number and Issuer

The record shows the entity’s registered legal name, legal jurisdiction, registered address and available registration identifiers.

These details should correspond with the entity’s official records. A previous legal name or address may also appear when the LEI data has been updated.

    LEI Status and Renewal Date

The registration status indicates whether the LEI record is current, lapsed or subject to another status. The next renewal date shows when its information is due for annual revalidation.

An LEI does not disappear when it lapses. It remains searchable, but the record indicates that its information has not been renewed by the required date.

    Parent Entity Information

Where applicable and publicly reported, the record may show the entity’s direct and ultimate accounting consolidating parents.

A reporting exception may appear when parent information cannot be disclosed or when the entity does not have a reportable accounting consolidating parent.

How to Check LEI Status and Validity

Finding an LEI code confirms that a record exists. It does not by itself confirm that the LEI is current.

Check the entity name, LEI registration status and next renewal date together. A correctly formatted LEI can still have a lapsed or retired status.

    ISSUED

The LEI has been issued and its record is current.

    LAPSED

The renewal date has passed without the required annual revalidation. The code remains assigned to the entity but should be renewed to restore a current status.

    PENDING TRANSFER

Management of the LEI is being transferred between service providers. The underlying identifier will not change.

    RETIRED

The entity has ceased operating and was not merged into another legal entity.

Other administrative statuses may appear when a record is being transferred, corrected, consolidated or archived.

If your organisation’s record is lapsed, you can renew the LEI and revalidate its entity information. Incorrect legal names, addresses or ownership details can be corrected by updating the LEI record.

    Why Search for an LEI?

An LEI search can help you:

    • Find an LEI number when only the entity name is known
    • Confirm that an LEI belongs to the correct legal entity
    • Check whether an LEI is current or lapsed
    • Review the entity’s registered name and address
    • Identify the LEI issuer and next renewal date
    • Check available parent entity information
    • Verify an LEI supplied by a remitter, beneficiary or counterparty

If the entity does not yet have an identifier, it can register an LEI online. A searchable record becomes available after the LEI has been successfully issued.

    No LEI found?

Register a new LEI and get your company ready for trading and reporting.

Yes. Public LEI records can be searched without charge.

Review the LEI registration status and next renewal date. An ISSUED status indicates that the record is current. A LAPSED status means its annual revalidation is overdue.

The identifier itself remains assigned to the entity. However, the information in the LEI record must be revalidated each year. If it is not renewed, the registration status changes to LAPSED.

Yes. A lapsed LEI remains in the global database and can still be searched. Its record will show that annual revalidation is overdue.

The entity may not have an LEI, or the search may be using a trading name instead of its registered legal name. Try the full legal name, remove abbreviations and confirm the entity’s country.

No. Each LEI is assigned to one legal entity and cannot be reused by another organisation.

The search is designed primarily for legal entity names and LEI codes. Searching by an Indian registration or tax identifier will not return a result.
